What We Do

What We Do

Serving Santa Clara county for over 50 years, ACT provides vital, affordable mental health services to anyone in need.

History

History

Helping clients help themselves... The roots of ACT lie in the self-help, mutual support system of clients diagnosed with mental illness.

Counseling Center

The Downtown Counseling Center provides affordable counseling services for individuals and families.

Fireside Friendship Club

For people with residual mental illness, the Fireside Friendship Club offers a therapeutic, self-help social club.

Mujeres & Hombres

A program for Spanish-speaking men and women to help in dealing with the problems of everyday living.

Educational Services

At various times during the year we offer classes in topics such as anger management, effective parenting, and parenting after divorce.

ACT for Mental Health strives to empower persons who are handicapped socially, mentally and economically.

In a Community Center atmosphere, we offer support and encouragement through educational services, personal enrichment activities, therapeutic counseling and the teaching of basic life and work skills.

Put simply – ACT promotes mental wellness among the disadvantaged, the working poor, and those without resources.

On Sunday, May 6th, The Saratoga Rotary Club is hosting their annual art show.  Proceeds from this event help fund their Charitable Foundation which assists local non-profits like ours.

In the last year, The Saratoga Rotary Charitable Foundation assisted ACT with one-time expenses to develop our current website.  This has been a tremendous help in reaching new clients, explaining our services and connecting us to new referrers and funders.

ACT for Mental Health is online in a new way.  We are on Twitter & Facebook!

We encourage you to interact with us on any or all of our social media forums!  Please share your thoughts or ask questions!

ACT for Mental Health has been a part of Downtown San Jose since 1956.  We initially were incorporated to sponsor the "Fireside Friendship Club," a therapeutic support group for persons with mental illness leaving institutional care at Agnews State Hospital.

Over the years, ACT has developed programs and services to cater to the needs of the San Jose community.  With our grassroots beginnings, we like to think outside the box.
