Helping clients help themselves... The roots of ACT lie in the self-help, mutual support system of clients diagnosed with mental illness.

Counseling Center

The Downtown Counseling Center provides affordable counseling services for individuals and families.

Fireside Friendship Club

For people with residual mental illness, the Fireside Friendship Club offers a therapeutic, self-help social club.

Mujeres & Hombres

A program for Spanish-speaking men and women to help in dealing with the problems of everyday living.

Educational Services

At various times during the year we offer classes in topics such as Anger Management, A Mindfulness Training, Effective Parenting, and Parenting after divorce.

ACT for Mental Health invites you to attend this fun, 2-hour fundraising event to support affordable counseling services for low-income members of the community.

For hundreds of people struggling with mental illness, a downtown San Jose center has been their lifeline for decades, thanks to this week’s Jefferson Award winner.

Carol Larson sat comfortably on a couch, surrounded by friends. She has struggled with schizophrenia, but she’s found a special place in a social club for recovering mental health patients.  “I feel like I belong,” she said simply.
