ACT featured in Mercury News Wish Book 2011
ACT does things differently. ACT is a grassroots agency that has been around since 1956. We've learned to listen to what the community and our clients need. ACT Spanish-speaking Therapist Asminda Sousa heard time and time again
that her clients were struggling because they did not speak English. She heard that the consequences were pervasive...it impacted their sense of self, their ability to advocate for their children and their ability to secure jobs in the community. She responded by offering English classes for her clients, in addition to their therapy. Unfortunately, the classes have not been offered recently due to lack of funds for textbooks. Each year during the holidays, the San Jose Mercury News publishes several stories (called the Wish Book) about community needs and asks the community to respond with financial contributions. Last week, ACT was featured in the San Jose Mercury News and requesting funds to help our clients with textbooks ($85), childcare ($30) and transportation costs ($24) to participate in a class to learn English. I invite you to read the following article in the Mercury News and read about the success stories of our clients at www.mercurynews.net/wishbook/2011/page.php?w=english.
